New Harapan Island Trestle Canopy Boosts Comfort and Tourism

Construction is underway for a new canopy over the pier trestle on Harapan Island, led by the Seribu Islands Transportation Sub-agency. The work is designed to improve daily commutes for locals while giving the island's marine tourism spot a fresh, modern upgrade.

Seribu Islands Port Construction Head, Ahyus Wanto explained that adding the canopy aligns with Jakarta’s port infrastructure upgrades and responds directly to resident requests dating back to 2024.

"We're building this shelter to ensure a much more comfortable walk across the trestle for residents and visitors alike," he expressed, Tuesday (9/22).

He outlined that the canopy installation spans two budget years, with phase one slated for 2026 and phase two set for 2027.

Initial setup and material deliveries kicked off in July 2026, paving the way for structural work in early August 2026.

"By September 2026, project progress has hit the 50 percent mark," he added.

Ahyus highlighted that the canopy does more than shield pedestrians from the elements. Its design doubles as an eye-catching photo spot aimed at elevating Harapan Island's tourism draw.

"Besides providing shade, we've designed this canopy to serve as an iconic photo backdrop for visitors on Harapan Island," he noted.

He added that the upgraded trestle—a vital hub for the island's water transit—will provide a significantly better experience for daily commuters and travelers.

"We're keeping a close eye on construction to keep everything on schedule, so both the community and visitors can enjoy the full benefits of this upgrade," he emphasized.

This project received appreciation from the Harapan Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Nuralim.

"We hope this upgrade makes life a bit easier and more enjoyable for locals and visitors alike," he said.

He urged the public to take shared ownership of the new structure to ensure its long-term benefits, encouraging everyone to keep the canopy clean and well-kept once completed.

"We want this upgrade to make Harapan Island even more welcoming. We just ask residents to help us look after the space so the entire community can enjoy it for years to come," he emphasized.
